a) 2900
b) 3200
c) 3000
d) 2850
e) 2700
Solutions -
1) d) speed of john=
30km/hr
speed of max=40 km/hr
let the distnace
between p and m =x km
650-x/30 =x/40+3
7x=2240
x=320 km
2) b) let the Boys=
x; Girls= y
23.25= (30x+20y)/x+y
23.25x+23.25y=
30x+20y
6.75x = 3.25y
x/y= 13/27
3) d) Let the present
age of Ranjana and Rakhi be 15x and 17x
15x+6/17x+6 = 9/10
x=2
=age of ranjana after
6 yrs= 15*2+6= 36 yrs
4) e) Distance
Travelled by Salman in 3 minutes
= 3/60× 120 = 6 km
Distance travelled by
Govinda in 3 minutes
= 3/60 × 80 = 4 km
Hence Salman will
have to travel a distance of 10 km before catching up with Govinda.
Relative speed of
Salman to that of Govinda after taking U turn = 120 – 80 = 40 kmph
∴ Time taken by Salman after taking U turn to
Meet Govinda = 10/40 = 15 minutes
Total time taken by
Salman to meet Govinda = (3 + 15)minutes = 18 minutes
5) d) The quantity of
milk in the mixture = 35 × 4/7 = 20 litres
The quantity of water
in the mixture= 35 – 20 = 15 litres
Now, let the quantity
of water added to the mixture be x litres. Then water becomes 60% of the total
quantity of mixture. ∴
Required % of water in mixture
= Total quantity of
water/Total quantity of mixture = 60%
15 + x/35 + x = 3/5
⇒ 75 + 5x = 105 + 3x
⇒ 2x = 30
∴ x = 15 litres.
6) a) Ratio of 1st and 2nd numbers = 3 : 4
Ratio of 2nd and 3rd
numbers = 5 : 6
Let the 2nd number =
5x, third number = 6x
Product of 2nd and
3rd numbers = 4320
5x × 6x = 4320
X2 = 144
x = 12
2nd number = 60, 3rd
number = 72,
1st number = 60/4 × 3
= 45
Sum of three numbers
= 60 + 72 + 45 = 177
7) d) The smallest cube divisible by 16 is 64.
Lets assume the
average salary before the manager's salary is included is x
After addition of
Manager's salary the average increases by 100
We can write down the
above information in form of an equation as:
64x + 9500 = 65 × (x
+ 100)
Solving for x, we get
x = 3000
The final average is
3000 + 100 = Rs. 3100
8) b) The
manufacturer sells the product to retailer, and then retailer sells to the
customer.
Assume manufacturing cost = 100 and
manufacturer profit = x
As Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of a product is
60% above its manufacturing cost,
MRP = 160% of 100 = 160
The retailer gives 15% discount on MRP. So,
customer price is 85% of MRP.
Buyer Price = 85% of 160 = 136
Manufacturer makes x rupees profit, and then
retailer makes 19% profit.
So, 119% of (100 + x) = 136
⇒
119 (100 + x) = 13600
⇒ (100 + x) = 114.28
⇒ x = 14.28
Hence, Manufacturer profit = 14.2%
9) d) Let 1st number
= x + 12, 2nd = x
Average = 19
(x + x + 12)/2 = 19
2x + 12 = 38
2x = 38 – 12
2x = 26
x = 13
1st = 25, 2nd = 13
Ratio = 25 + 2 : 13 +
2
= 27 : 15 = 9 : 5
10) a)
1st : 2nd = 5:6; 2nd
: 3rd = 15:16
1st : 2nd : 3rd = 5 ×
15 : 6 × 15 : 6 × 16
= 75 : 90 : 96
= 25 : 30 : 32
Difference between
the first and the thirst number = 700
32x - 25x = 700
7x = 700
x = 100
Number, 1st = 25 ×
100 = 2500, 2nd = 30 × 100 = 3000, 32 × 100 = 3200
Average = 2500 + 3000
+ 3200/3
= 8700/3 = 2900
